Matthew White

Job title: Consultant (Music/Tennis/Cricket), Proofreader, Fact-checker, Researcher

Based in: Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, UK

Matthew has been with Guinness World Records since June 2002, initially working on the final four editions of the British Hit Singles & Albums series (1977-2006) before ‘graduating’ to the main GWR books (and supporting titles) in 2007 as proofreader, fact-checker, and consultant for three of his lifelong passions: popular music, tennis and cricket. When he’s not writing about music or watching (and occasionally playing) sport, he can be found, headphones on, listening to countless hours of music on Spotify, meticulously curating playlists in support of his 35-year-old hobby: compiling his own weekly copy of the UK's Official Singles Chart. Among his favourite artists are Chris de Burgh, Taylor Swift, Tim McGraw, Passenger, and the inimitable and inspirational Shakira, who he was lucky enough to catch live at The O2 Arena in London in 2018, on her El Dorado World Tour.
